Just thought I would share a little gripe of mine...
Several times in the past few weeks other mums have asked me if my son (who is almost three) 'knows about Easter.' The same thing happened in the leadup to Christmas time.
What I really want to say to them is, "No. I kind of feel like the details of torture and crucifixion are a bit heavy for a kid who's not even three yet." But I don't, because that would be rude. I say, "No. Not really, but he loves bunny rabbits." Sometimes, if they ask what my plans are for Easter, I tell them, "Mainly church."
What bothers me, is that we have a generation in their 20s and 30s who honestly believe that Easter is about chocolate and the easter bunny, and that Christmas is about Santa. So much so, that it never occurs to them that a Christian might view the holiday a little bit differently.
Has this ever happened to you?
And also, how do you teach your young children about Easter? My children both accompany us to church, and I teach the Sunday school. As yet, though, I haven't really focussed much on teaching the details leading up to the resurrection.

I think of it as an opportunity to open their eyes to the truth, nothing graphic, just the plain simple truth, Jesus of Nazareth who is called the Christ was born of a virgin, lived to fulfil the law of Moses, suffered, bled and died to atone for our sins, then on the third day was resurrected to intercede between us and God.
I have never once got onto the topic of rabbits or the flying fat boy.

The bible refers to the age of understand, which refers to the age when a person can come to an understand of Christ themselves. Personally if you teach your little man the scriptures according to your knowledge of Christ, and answer questions honestly, all will be fine. Your personal walk will reflect on your son/children and allow them to grow into the knowledge of Christ Jesus and thus the truth!
We are aware of the lack of knowledge about Christ and real religion from most youth and young adults due to government control in schools and such and the inability of parents to lead by example and churches who are more worldly than the world.
All we can do is pray for God's mercy and grace!

I personally would not trust Govt or schools to teach the correct message about Christ Jesus to begin with. These things can only be taught in the home. Same as morals, ethics, right and wrong, I would not trust anyone to teach my children (if I was blessed to have any that is) these things, this is something that must be taught in the home.
