What Are Intestinal Parasites?
Intestinal parasites are typically caused by protozoa or helminths, the two major types of intestinal parasites.
Protozoa are single-celled organisms that can multiply within the body. The word helminth comes from the Greek word for worm. Helminths can't multiply in the human body, which means that they usually clear up with treatment without reinfecting you. The most common types of helminths are tapeworms and roundworms.
Symptoms of Intestinal Parasites
* Diarrhea
* Gas or bloating
* Nausea or vomiting
* Stomach pain or tenderness
* Fatigue or weakness
* Weight loss
* Passing a worm in your stool
Natural Remedies for Intestinal Parasites
If you think you might have intestinal parasites, it's important to see your primary health care provider to get a proper diagnosis and find out what kind of organism is causing your problems. This is done through various tests.
The following herbs, supplements, and dietary recommendations may also be a part of your treatment plan. Although they are widely used for intestinal parasites, keep in mind that there has been very little research conducted on the effectiveness of these supplements for intestinal parasites.
1) Garlic
Garlic (Allium sativa) has been found to have activity against Ascaris (roundworm), Giardia lamblia, Trypanosoma, Plasmodium, and Leishmania.
Garlic is available in capsule and tablet form and as whole garlic cloves.
2) Goldenseal
The herb goldenseal (Hydrastis Canadensis) has been used historically for infections involving the mucous membranes in the body, such as respiratory tract infections.
Preliminary lab studies suggest that berberine, the active constituent of goldenseal, is active against Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, and Plasmodium. For more information about goldenseal, read the Goldenseal Fact Sheet, altmedicine.about.com/cs/herbsvi ... enseal.htm.
3) Black walnut
Black walnut is a folk herbal remedy used for ringworm and athlete's foot. The juice of unripe hulls of black walnut that are used for parasites and fungal infections. There have been no clinical studies on the effectiveness or safety of black walnut for intestinal parasites.
4) Wormwood The herb wormwood (Artemesia annua) has been used for centuries as a herbal remedy for intestinal parasites. Preliminary research suggests wormwood may have activity against Ascaris lumbricoides, Plasmodium, Schistosoma mansoni, and Giardia.
Wormwood contains sesquiterpene lactones, which are thought to weaken parasite membranes.
Wormwood can be found in tea, liquid extract, or capsule form, however, the pure oil is considered toxic and should not be ingested. The safety and effectiveness of this herb has not been established in clinical trials.
5) Wormseed
Wormseed (Chenopodium ambrosioides) is a traditional herbal remedy in the tropics for expelling roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms.
Concentrated wormseed oil is too potent to use, so many herbalists consider wormseed tea to be preferable. More scientific studies are needed to confirm the historical usage of this herb and its safety.
6) Pumpkin Seeds
Traditionally, pumpkin seeds (Curcubita pepo) have been used as a remedy for tapeworms and roundworms.
Herbalists often recommend large amounts, up to 25 ounces for adults. The seeds are often mashed and mixed with juice. Two or three hours after consuming the pumpkin seeds, a laxative is often recommended to help cleanse the intestines.
The clinical safety and effectiveness of pumpkin seeds has not been scientifically studied.
7) Grapefruit seed extract
Grapefruit seed extract is usually found in liquid form in health food stores. Although preliminary research suggests it may have antimicrobial and antiyeast properties, there is little research to date on its effectiveness for parasites.
# 7) Diet These are some dietary recommendations often suggested to support the intestinal parasite cleansing process: Temporarily avoid coffee, refined sugar, alcohol, and refined foods.
Eat anti-parasitic foods. Try eating more raw garlic. Pineapple contains the digestive enzyme bromelain. A diet rich in pineapple can help to clear certain parasites such as tapeworms. Papaya seeds contain enzymes that help to digest protein. They can be chewed, but watch out, they are as hot as mustard seeds.
# Carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash are some foods that are rich in beta carotene, a precursor for vitamin A. Vitamin A is thought to increase resistance to penetration by larvae. Vitamin C and zinc also support the immune system
# Probiotics such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacteria, and L. bulgaricus can help to rebuild beneficial intestinal bacteria. To learn more about probiotics, read the article Acidophilus and Other Probiotics, altmedicine.about.com/cs/herbsvi ... philus.htm.
# Tumeric and cloves are other spices that can help fight parasites.
8) Intestinal cleansing
Intestinal cleansing involves the use of a higher-fiber diet plus supplements such as psyllium husks, citrus pectin, papaya extract, bentonite clay, activated charcoal, pumpkin seeds, beet root, and/or flaxseeds. Although there is no clinical research showing that it can help to eliminate intestinal parasites, it is a popular alternative approach. "Intestinal Worms treatment using Coconut
Among the numerous home remedies found beneficial in the treatment of intestinal worms, the use of coconut is most effective. It is an ancient remedy for expelling all kinds of intestinal worms. A tablespoon of freshly ground coconut should be taken at breakfast, followed by 30 to 60 ml of castor oil mixed with 250 to 375 ml of lukewarm milk after three hours. This process may be repeated till the cure is complete.
Intestinal Worms treatment using Garlic
Garlic has been used from ancient times by the Chinese, Greeks, Romans, Indians, and Babylonians for expelling intestinal worms. It is still used by modern medical practitioners for the same purpose. Both fresh garlic and its oil are effective. An ancient method of its administration was to place a couple of cloves fresh garlic in each shoe. As the person walked, the cloves got crushed, and the worm-killing garlic oil was absorbed by the skin and carried by the blood into the intestines easily, as it possessed a powerful penetrative force. This ancient method is worth a trial by those who do no not like the taste of garlic and cannot eat it. Those who can eat raw garlic, however, should chew three cloves of garlic every morning.
Intestinal Worms treatment using Carrot
Carrots are valuable in the elimination of threadworms among children as they are offensive to all parasites. A small cup of grated carrot taken every morning, with no other food added to the meal, can clear these worms quickly.
Intestinal Worms treatment using Papaya
The digestive enzyme papain in the milky juice of the unripe papaya is a powerful agent for destroying roundworms. A tablespoon of the fresh juice of an unripe papaya, and an equal quantity of honey should be mixed with three to four tablespoons of hot water and taken as a dose by an adult. This should be followed two hours later by a dose of 30 to 60 ml of castor oil mixed in 250-375 ml of lukewarm milk. This treatment should be repeated for two days if necessary. For children between seven to ten years of age, half the above doses should be given. For children under three years, a tablespoon is sufficient. Papaya seeds are also useful for this purpose. They are rich in a substance called caricin which is a very effective medicine for expelling roundworms. The seeds should be powdered and taken in doses of one teaspoon with one cup of milk or water daily in the morning on an empty stomach. The alkaloid carpaine found in papaya leaves also has the power to destroy or expel intestinal worms. An infusion can be made by pouring 250 ml of boiling water over 15 gm of dry leaves. This can be taken with honey.
Intestinal Worms treatment using Pomegranate
The bark, both of the root and the stems of the pomegranate tree, is well known for its anthelmintic properties of destroying parasitic worms. The bark of the root is, however, preffered as it contains a greater quantity of the alkaloid punicine than the bark of the stem. This alkaloid is highly toxic to tapeworms. A cold decoction of the bark, preferably fresh bark, should be given in quantities of 90 to 180 ml three times, at intervals of one hour, to an adult. A purgative should be given after the last dose. The dose for children is 30 to 60 ml. The decoction is also used for expelling tapeworms.
Intestinal Worms treatment using Pumpkin
The seeds of ripe pumpkin are useful in intestinal worms, especially tapeworms. One tablespoon of the seeds should be peeled and crushed, and then infused in 250 ml of boiling water and drunk. This will kill the parasites and help in expelling the tapeworms. It will be necessary to fast for a day and empty the intestines by taking the juice of boiled dry prunes. The next day, three or four tumblers of the pumpkin seed infusion should be taken.
Intestinal Worms treatment using Wormwood
The herb wormwood is an ancient cure for expelling intestinal worms. It was extensively used by the Greeks and Romans for this purpose. The flowering tops have been and are, to this day, largely used in the Tibbi (Unani) system of medicine in India as a drug to kill intestinal worms. They are usually powdered and given in eight to sixteen gram doses daily for roundworms and tapeworms. The oil distilled from this plant also possesses the property to kill worms.It should be mixed with olive oil, the latter being eight times the weight of the former.This mixture can be given in doses of 50 to 100 ml for this purpose. An infusion of the herb can also be prepared by mixing 2 ml of wormwood oil in 120 ml of water, and be given as an enema for killing worms in the rectum.
Intestinal Worms treatment using Belleric Myroblan
The herb belleric myroblan, mixed with the seeds of the herb butea ( palas ) on a 50:50 basis is an excellent anthelmintic. It should be given in doses of one teaspoon thrice a day. It helps remove all intestinal parasites. The seeds of butea can also be administered alone with beneficial results in expelling intestinal worms. One teaspoon of seeds may be given either in the form of powder or paste with one teaspoon of honey, thrice daily. They are specially beneficial in the treatment of roundworms and tapeworms.
Intestinal Worms treatment using Vasaka
The leaves, bark, rout-bark, fruit, and the flowers of vasaka tree also help in removing intestinal parasites. A decoction of the root and bark can be prepared by boiling 30 gm of the root and bark in 500 ml of water, till it is reduced by one-third. This decoction may be given in doses of 30ml twice or thrice daily for two or three days. The juice of the fresh leaves can also be used in doses of a teaspoon thrice a day for three days.
Intestinal Worms treatment using Calamus
Another valuable remedy for expelling intestinal worms is the herb calamus. The bitter element in this herb, acorin, is an anthelmintic."

INTESTINAL PARASITES
Some symptoms of the invasion of intestinal parasites are itch in the rectum,cramping abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, alternation of constipation and diarrhea, coughing, bloating, bloody stools and weight loss. Children can grind their teeth during the night, wake up often, be fussy and wet their beds. If you notice these symptoms, you should get laboratory tests done to find out what exactly the cause of it is. And if it is caused by intestinal worms, you should find out what group of parasites they are.
But sometimes the invasion of intestinal worms has no symptoms or the symptoms come and go.
It is very important to follow personal hygiene rules, wash fruits and vegetables very well and even rinse them with boiling water, do not eat undercooked fish and meat, drink only boiled or bottled water and wash your hands through out the day, especially after a contact with animals.
Pinworms
Pinworms are parasitic roundworms that reside in the intestines of around 200 million people worldwide with the majority of its hosts being small children. They are also commonly known as seat worms and thread worms and go by the scientific moniker of Enterobius vermicularis. Its white color and long pin like shape identifies the pinworm. The wing like ridges that run the length of its body can also identify it upon cross section. With the male being 2.5 to 5 millimeters in length and the female measuring in at 8 to 15 millimeters, the adult pinworm can sometimes be seen with the naked eye in the stool of the host, looking like small white worms. You will, however, need a microscope to see the eggs.
While in the intestines the male pinworm fertilizes the female who then travels down to the colon and leaves the host through the anus. At the rim of the anus, the female deposits her eggs and then secretes a substance that causes severe itching, which of course leads to scratching. The eggs get stuck underneath the fingernails and then find their way back into the host (or others) via the oral cavity. They hatch in the stomach and then travel back down to the intestine where they start the life cycle all over again, with their life cycle lasting two to six weeks.
Pinworms are extremely easy to get, spreading from one child to another as they play together and share toys. The eggs are resilient and can survive on the skin for several hours and up to two weeks on clothes, bedding and toys. We all know children love to tick their filthy hands in their mouth, allowing the eggs to travel back down to the intestines and began anew.
The only real damage pinworms cause their host is an itchy bottom, although some research does indicate a correlation with a zinc deficiency. Pinworm infections are generally mild and are easily treated with a common worming medication such as pyrantel and mebendazole. An ounce or two of prevention needs to be taken by the family in order to keep pinworms from spreading. All blankets, clothes, towels, toys, etcetera should be washed in hot water, and all fingernails should be thoroughly cleaned and, if possible, cut short.
Clean Your Colon
Flukes, tapeworms, and roundworms, are common parasites that can find their way into our body through the foods that we eat and liquids that we drink. Once inside, they make their way into our intestines and colon, where they set up shop and make themselves right at home. These colon parasites will eventually bring on chronic disease and sickness if not properly controlled. The best way to make sure that you rid yourself of these parasites is regular colon cleansing.
There are many ways to clean our your colon from high fiber diets, enemas, medication as well as herbal supplements. Herbal supplements seem to be the ideal way to go about cleansing your colon because they are less intrusive then a full colonic enema, safer than pharmaceuticals and more effective than increasing your fiber intake. There are several different herbs that work and you will be able to adapt a method that best suits you.
Ridding your colon of parasites can be an arduous task that may take many months to complete. These parasites have evolved to thrive in your digestive tract and they will not just decide to go away peacefully once you began a herbal regimen. You are going to have to stick with the regimen you choose for quite some time before you fully eradicate them. It may take up to three months before your colon is fully cleansed.
The single scariest thing about parasites is how fast they are able to proliferate. A single one can lay around 10,000 eggs at one time, making it extremely hard to totally wipe them out. This makes being thorough with your treatment extremely important. It is also important to choose a treatment that is going to effectively and efficiently wipe out the parasite. Leaving just a single one behind could spell doom for you.
Wormwood, common sloves, and black walnut hull are the three most common herbs used to get rid of tapeworms, roundworms and flukes from your system. Wormwood is a tonic that has been known to soothe the stomach and help people regain their appetite. Both Black Walnut Hulls, and Sloves have been used as a natural means to expel intestinal worms by naturists for a long time. Be sure to check if the herbal medication you are taking contains these three herbs, before purchasing it.
If abdominal pain becomes severe, it is important to start the colon cleansing process as soon as possible. Abdominal pain is one symptom of roundworms. Other symptoms include dry hair and skin, acne, rashes and other skin problems. Checking your stool for what looks like pieces of rice is another good way to ascertain whether you have roundworms. If roundworms go unchecked for too long, they may even cause death.
Coming up with the right treatment to cleanse your colon is important since parasites are both hard to detect and even harder to get rid of. Regular colon cleansing is the surest way to keep your insides happy.

CAUSES, SYMPTOMS & TREATMENT OF GIARDIASIS
Giardia lamblia is a microscopic flagellated protozoan parasite that can be found in the guts of 200 million people around the globe. This parasite in responsible for the illness of the digestive tract that is known as Giardiasis, which also goes by the name of beaver fever and backpacker's diarrhea. Sufferers of Giardiasis typically experience diarrhea, loss of appetite, belching, gas and cramps that can persist up to six weeks. While these symptoms are by no means enjoyable, they are generally not life threatening.
The Giardia Lamblia (which also goes by the names Giardia doudenalis and giardia intestinalis) gets into its human host via the consumption of contaminated water or food, or via personal contact. Once in the intestine, the parasite then can leave the body via stool deposits where it can sit and wait for its next victim. The protective outer shell of the parasite allows it to stay outside of a host for extended periods of time.
The parasite is most commonly ingested when it is in this cyst form. In its protective shell the Giardia Lamblia can exist for long periods, , even in the coolest river bed , until it is digested. Once inside, the stomach acid triggers the cyst releasing the two trophozites that exist inside which go on to attach to the mucus lining of the digestive tract via their ventral sucking disk where it weakens its host by limited the body's absorption of carbohydrates and fats
Giardia Lamblia is believed to be zoonotic and nature, meaning that it can be passed around from different animal species. Other animals that our thought to be hosts for the parasite include beavers, birds, horses, dogs, cats and cattle. The most common way to get Gardia is by drinking water that has been contaminated by the feces of one of these animals, making it a serious problem for people who drink untreated water or eat uncooked food. Backpackers who drink from streams lakes or rivers without first treating their water are always in danger of getting this parasite. Another way to get it is by inadvertently putting something that has been contaminated in your mouth, putting people at daycare and institutional facilities at risk.
Symptoms
Giardiasis symptoms may appear within three days of ingesting the cysts, or may take up to a full month to come about. Generally, it takes about ten days for the symptoms to crop up. These symptoms include abdominal cramps, intestinal bloating, loss of appetite, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, headaches, flatulence, diarrhea and a mild fever. Extended bouts of Giardiasis can lead to dehydration and weight loss. While most people experience some type of symptoms, it is possible to have the parasite and not experience any at all. Foul smelling diarrhea that floats (because of the unabsorbed fats) is one of surest ways to detect Giardiasis.
Treatments
An antibiotic known as Flagyl is the common treatment for Giardiasis. It is taken three times a day for 5 to 10 days and it is not recommended for heavy drinkers or women in the early stages of pregnancy. Side effects of Flagyl include nausea. Other antibiotics that have been used effectively include: albenzazole, metronidazole and furizolidone. However, prevention is probably the best way to fight the ailment. Wash your hands thoroughly after going to the bathroom, dispose of sewage in a proper manner, do not drink untreated water from springs, streams, or lakes.
Children suffering from diarrhea, because of giardiasis, may become dehydrated because of excess fluid in their stool. Plenty of fluids are recommended and it is important to note that caffeinated beverages such as soda will only dehydrate the body faster.
HOME REMEDIES FOR LAMBLIA GIARDIASIS
Fill in 1/3 of a bottle with young birch leaves and add cognac till the top. Leave it for 3 weeks. Filter the extract and add the same amount of beet juice, the same amount of carrot juice and honey. Stir it well. Take 100 ml of the mix 3 times a day 30 min before meals.
Mix 1 part of grated garlic and 1 part of grated horseraddish. Add 1/2 L of vodka for 50 g of the mix. Keep it in a dark place at room temperature for 10 days. Shake the mix regularly. Filter the extract and take 1 table spoon of it 2-3 times a day 20 min before meals. You can drink water after.
For lamblia in liver: Prepare a mix of 1 part of linden tree ashes, 1 part of honey and 1 part of milk. Take 1 tea spoon of the mix on the first day, 2 tea spoons on the second day, etc. After 7 days ( and you should take 7 tea spoons of the mix ) take a 10 day break. Then repeat the treatment (again for 7 days ). Take the mix 30 min before breakfast.
And also remember that prevention is better than cure!!! You can do the homework on that...
